What is a power engineer?

Power engineers primarily work for large industrial companies in charge of controlling the country's power supply, be that electrical, oil, nuclear or gas. Their responsibility is to design and implement technologies to be incorporated with existing power systems, while they also maintain our nations power grids and other public power projects.

Those looking for a career as a power engineer will often find themselves training on the job, but they will also require a formal qualification in electrical engineering. It's a dirty job that requires strenuous physical activity in potentially dangerous situations; however, power engineers are very much in demand right now across the country, so there's no shortage of jobs. In addition, power engineers can expect to earn a salary of just under £30,000 for entry positions, while more senior positions can pull in between £40,000 to £65,000 per annum.
